Injured fast bowler Ebadot Hossain traveled to India with the Bangladesh T20 squad from Dhaka on Tuesday, October 1, ahead of their three-match T20I series starting on October 6.
Ebadot had sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan in July 2023, which required surgery and has kept him sidelined since.
Shahriar Nafees, head of cricket operations at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), informed Cricbuzz that Ebadot was not sent to participate in the series but to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of the team's management.
"Ebadot is traveling with the team to continue his rehabilitation program in India," Nafees told Cricbuzz. "The Tigers Program is currently closed, as players have joined their respective first-class teams. Ebadot is going with the team so that our national team physio Bayzid Bhai and trainer Nathan Kelly can further assess him."
He clarified, "He won’t be playing; his purpose there is to continue rehabilitation under the guidance of the national team management, who want to monitor his progress closely."
Bangladesh is set to play three T20Is in Gwalior (October 6), Delhi (October 9), and Hyderabad (October 12).
Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam expressed optimism ahead of the series, despite the absence of key players, including Shakib Al Hasan, who recently announced his retirement. "We've been training for a long time, so let’s see how it goes," Shoriful told reporters before departing Dhaka. "The team looks strong, and if we play to our potential, we can achieve a good result."
Pacer Tanzim Shakib shared similar views, stressing the importance of teamwork to fill the gap left by Shakib Al Hasan. "We need to play as a unit to compensate for his absence," he said.
