PlayStation Down: Major outage hits PlayStation network, Sony responds

Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) is experiencing a major outage, impacting multiple consoles including the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PS Vita, and older models like the PlayStation 3. Sony confirmed the outage through an official post on its website, assuring users that they are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The PSN Service Status page mentioned, "You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience." However, Sony has not disclosed the cause of the problem or provided an estimated timeline for restoring services

.

Many users have reported seeing the error code "PS5 Error Code WS-116522-7" when attempting to launch games, with Sony's website indicating that a system software update has failed. Players are also encountering issues logging into both single and multiplayer games.

The outage has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some users expressed their frustration, others took a humorous approach, sharing memes.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) joked, “PlayStation Network is down, time to get to know my wife of five years.”

Another user vented, “Worked a 10-hour shift just for PlayStation Network to be down.”

Yet another criticized the situation, writing, “PlayStation Network being down and not letting you play the games you paid for is a reminder that you don’t really 'own' anything digitally. Anything requiring license verification means you’ve bought access, not ownership."

A different user added, “PlayStation Network is down & I can’t even play single-player games because they perpetually need license verification. I bought access to the licensed IP, I didn’t rent it. After 1,500+ hours in Elden Ring, I still need to be verified? Ridiculous."
